
'In Dog We Trust' rug to be auctioned
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is auctioning this misspelled rug.(Photo: Pinellas County Sheriff's Office)The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says it is not sweeping anything under the rug.Instead it has decided to auction off a misprinted 'In Dog We Trust' floor covering for a good cause.The Florida office said there has been "extensive interest" in what it planned to do, so they are letting folks bid on it and will donate 100% of the proceeds to a local animal rescue called Canine Estates Inc.The unintentional tribute to the K-9 unit sat in the office lobby for months, until an officer noticed the misprint, according to Cristen Smith, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office near St. Petersburg, Fla.The rug was removed Jan. 14 from the lobby, and the sheriff's office verified that the original proof featured the correct spelling.The starting bid was $100 and has of this posting reached $2,303.Bidding closes at 4 p.m. on Jan. 21.
